OpenGFX is great - because I use other grfs, I don't see any black bits! I'm particularly grateful for the replacement of the horrible old stadium, and the new train stations are awesome! :)

There's a reason for that: imagine you think you installed the original sample.cat, but the game doesn't produce any sound effects. If the game doesn't give an error message you'll be blaming the game while it's actually your own error that it doesn't work (e.g. you put the file in the wrong dir).

Okay, that's evident, sure.

Thanks for your help. For the german (this is my native language) users I've put a small Howto on my website.

Looks really nice! Beside the issue already reported (needing to extract the tar to make it work, allthough it strangely half-worked when forced before), I have an issue with 32bpp graphics. They seem to be ignored when I select OpenGFX. I suspect this is rather a bug in openttd, but I'd like to inquire first before posting on the bug tracker.

IIRC the way 32bpp graphics are "coded" is by putting them in a folder (in a .tar) which has the same name as the grf which includes the sprites the 32bpp graphics are supposed to replace. To get the 32bpp graphics to work for OpenGFX the folder needs to be renamed appropriately, eg. trg1r.grf --> opengfx1r.grf

"Small Howto" he says. There's nothing wrong with calling it a manual; it's very thorough! Good job on that! :D Pretty neat website by the way, it might even be the very first OpenGFX themed website ;)

This is such an obvious question I think it would be mentioned somewhere, but I cant find it. Is there a way to make the game use the OpenGFX when possible and instead of using black rectangles for the other graphics use the TTD graphics? Or does this require editing the grfs?

That's the very answer to your question. The game has no way of knowing what is a black rectangle and what is not. Apart from that, it doesn't have the ability to load to base graphic sets and selectively select sprites from those sets.

'editing the grfs' might not even be the correct term to accomplish what you want: apart from editing it also needs recoding as ActionA...

It would be even better if you could help draw the missing sprites so we can fill in the black boxes! :)

I guess vehicles from the eGRVTS could be redesigned to fit the set? :P

*Hopes I'm not suggesting something that's already been done*

The road vehicles already in OpenGFX are based on GRVTS...

:P I guessed that would be the answer - seeing as I use the eGRVTS in combination with LV4, what do I know? :lol:

I think sprite 4226 In opengfx1r.pcx is misaligned, it is moved a pixel to far to the left.

The 'X' window close button seems to be misaligned.

That's not a bug by OpenGFX, it's one of OpenTTD!

Please explain me in which way it is a bug of OpenTTD?
a) the X on that button is a single character (not the capital X, but a 'special' character) that is drawn in the center of that button (sprite 143). In the center here means (left + right - width)/2 + 'sprite offset'. The 'left' and 'right' are the left and right border of the button, the 'width' is the width of the sprite and the 'sprite offset' is a "magic" number that describes the offset of the sprite which is encoded in the GRF file;
b) it works perfectly fine for the normal TTD graphics files;
c) OpenGFX 'aligns' the character 1 pixel more to the left (as per opengfx1r.nfo) in contrast to the original TTD graphics. Furthermore the sprite in OpenGFX is 1 wider making it being drawn another pixel more to the left;
d) it looks like with the OpenGFX graphics the character is aligned 2 pixels too much to the left;
e) if it were a bug in OpenTTD's string drawing then ALL text would be drawn 2 pixels too much to the left, also with the original TTD graphics. Is that the case?
