Found this patch marked as being in trunk some 2000 revisions ago - https://bugs.openttd.org/task/1128
Can someone comment on what exactly is it suppose to enhance/enable? I'm reading the description as if it will provide auto-spacing for running vehicles based on a shared order, or am I mistaken?

indeed there is autoseparation in game since a while.
to make it work though you have first to have a complete timetable.
once it s completed, you can select one of the vehicule serving the "line" and set a departure date while holding CTRL, vehicule sharing orders will then auto separate each other equally (you can see they all have a different departure date)
now take care when you start autoseparation to have enough platforms/bay for vehicles so they can wait until there departure time and not jam your station...
It might be hard in the beginning to use it ...rightfully, but after a while, like any other separation patch you can t stop using it.
