Tsch, tsch, I told you not to find any... :-)
TrueSatan wrote:If you build a station, then an joined station and try to remove the first station the game crashes.
Does only happen if the the stations are at least 3 tiles away.
...and, for extra fun, if it is not a train station.
TrueSatan wrote:Strange but it happens in the version before as well.
My linux doesn't produce any logfiles or crashdumps.
I will see if I can get it crashing on my windows machine as well.
Providing a way to reliably reproduce the bug, as you did, is good enough.

The attached diff should fix the issue (apply with patch -p1). The real fix will have to wait, because I am going to take this opportunity to look into the station building code in more detail, and I will not be able to update my published branch in a few weeks, anyway. But you should be fine with this.

The attached diff should fix the issue
1. Hotfix patched in
2. Tested - Bug is gone
3. Windows patched binary post updated here.

Thank you cirdan for the quick fix.
:D

EDIT: By the way, the Advanced settings window looks good and the World generation is very intuitive and easy to use. Another big Thank you.

Does the 2014-08-13 one compile for anyone? I get a lot of complaining about linkgraphs (unfortunately in Japanese so I don't really know what it's actually complaining about ^^) ...

Usually TrueSatan and I wait until Cirdan posts here that his repo is ready for another compile. I do see from the git repo that he has been working on linkgraphs, so it is possible that he still has some work to do.

Agreed someone has upgraded the git repro, but even the pull gives me errors for now, because i have applied the patch.
So I will, like Wally, wait for Cridans reply in here about a new version as well.
Maybe he just "parked" some code fragments there.

So i can't tell if there are compile errors or not.

Regards :)

Okay, so you have already found out that I have been updating my branch. I am currently going through my backlog of summer work, pushing commits in small batches, and I intended to finish pushing before making an announcement. But, since you already know, this is what I have pushed so far:
  • Fixed a crash when removing a station part that leaves the station sign out of the station area, as reported by TrueSatan.
  • You can now have a non-ASCII character as custom currency thousands separator (for instance, a non-break space).
  • Reworked some internals of ini file handling.
  • Reworked some data structures used in cargodist. I did this mostly for code readability, but it also resulted in improved data locality and a smaller memory footprint.

What compiler and platform are you using? Compiling with MSVC is known-broken for a long time. I have a fix for MSVC 2008, but I would like some testing to make sure it does not make things worse for MSVC 2010. And a few days ago I learnt that my linkgraph changes broke compilation on Windows with any compiler, because of some unforeseen interaction with preprocessor macros. If this is your case, could you try the following patch?

Re: New map features

Post by Pyoro »

I'm using MinGW on Win7, so probably something very similar to wallyweb, if I remember that correctly. Old versions always compiled (well, those I tried), so I suspected it was something recently changed.

And, of course, anything that helps ;) - yes, compiles just fine with the diff applied. And OTTD runs as well ... or, at least, starts up fine. ;)

Edit: just remembered something small: in the scenario editor, when you place a city, the name doesn't "clear" automatically. So for example you build Munich, then the name changed to "MunichBerlin". Then you build that one, get "MunichBerlinFrankfurt" and so on (until you get a CTD). Haven't dug around too deeply what's causing this, but it definitely doesn't happen in the latest trunk nightly.

Edit: I might've found something else - towns don't grow over custom bridgeheads, ie. if you connect two islands with a bridge and only make a "sharp" corner right after the connection (the way you can't without the patch) the town won't grow to the other side. Guess the town growth doesn't check corners at bridgeheads since it'd normally be impossible for them to be there ^^;

Thanks for testing. The patch is already in a development branch, although it may take some time until it makes it to the published repo.
Pyoro wrote:Edit: just remembered something small: in the scenario editor, when you place a city, the name doesn't "clear" automatically. So for example you build Munich, then the name changed to "MunichBerlin". Then you build that one, get "MunichBerlinFrankfurt" and so on (until you get a CTD). Haven't dug around too deeply what's causing this, but it definitely doesn't happen in the latest trunk nightly.

Edit: I might've found something else - towns don't grow over custom bridgeheads, ie. if you connect two islands with a bridge and only make a "sharp" corner right after the connection (the way you can't without the patch) the town won't grow to the other side. Guess the town growth doesn't check corners at bridgeheads since it'd normally be impossible for them to be there ^^;
Thanks for letting me know. I will take a look into this when time permits.

I prefer to compile a published repo but if you really want to try a developmental version I will compile sometime in the next 48 hours. Some real life stuff to contend with first.

Thanks Wally, it's also running well here :)

And Cirdan, i loaded successfully a big savegame from 1.4.2 into this last version compiled by wally, it s awesome, working just fine, i notice only a small lag when zooming in and out wich did not occured with 1.4.2, no big deal as the game is running really smooth otherwise, but i just thought i would inform you about it :)

edit : lag is happening on the two latest zoom out level (more lag on the last zoom out level), and happens especially when moving the view around.

Note: The cooling fan on my developer machine went toasters. It'll be at least three weeks before the new fan arrives and it gets fixed. I'm just another player until then. :P

Yeah. We simple folk are depending on ordinary no-name fans, from the corner shop.
