Stadiums as NewObjects (Eyecandy)
How about coming with a Stadionset as Eyecandy Objects (newObjects)?
Ther is already a different type of Stadiums in some houses sets, but they will be built over unfortunately after some time.
Therefore, it would surely great when they are built as Objects, I think.
Surely it would be easier if there's a way, currently available in OpenTTD Stadiums (whether ordinary or Stadiums of the various houses Sets) will be encoded as an independent Houseset and therein also various things such as:
- Once built stadium is not overbuilt
- per certain inhabitants a city builts specific number of stages (Probability)
etc etc ...
What's your Opinion ?

The problems with objects is (and will always be?) that they're really only visual. That's nice, but they hold no function - what's the point of a bus line to a stadium where no passengers get off?
Other than that, I think buildings can be set to not be overbuild. It just needs to be done within the GRF. And I'm not perfectly sure, but I think if for example you accidentally destroy the castle in the JapSet, the town won't build another either. So that's not perfect either, but it is how it is.
imo it makes more sense to me to code these unique buildings as an industry, if anything. It's not much more difficult than objects, and they can actually function. Has its own draw-backs, of course.

However, even when implemented as a house, it's possible to disallow overbuilding of the stadion. It's just a matter how the set designer made it. Thus before you make a set of stadion objects, you could as well make a set of stadion houses with the property that they are not over-built or only over-built on certain conditions, like being replaced by a new stadion or when there is at least one other stadion in the town.

Because what except passengers, goods, food (maybe beer in ECS or FIRS) should a stadium accept ? And what t (except Passengers) shall it produce.
I kow HouseIndustry as INDUSTRY...and tried it. But I also know that there are several porblems if you do combine it with several other Industrysets.
And in my opinion.... eyecandy objects:
- not bother anyone (really)
- are nice for more individual and more realistic gameplay
- can easily be incorporated into existing cities (without having to produce something)
It certainly makes more sense to integrate them as 2x2 Objects.
And there are certainly many famous stadiums that could be present (Old Trafford, Signal Iduna Park, Giuseppe-Meazza-Stadium, Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, Stade de France, Olympiastadion Berlin, Allianz-Arena, Camp Nou, Wembley-Stadium, Celtic Park, Etihad Stadium and so on ....)

Stadiums as NewObjects is the most simple. You can create a many designs as you wish and place them anywhere you wish. As noted, on their own they produce nor accept nothing. You can, however, use them as an overlay for any existing house, stadium or industry.
Stadiums as industries have the advantage of being not only useful, but allowing users, AI and the game itself to build them almost anywhere they wish. The downside being it ties up an industry slot, but this in itself is not novel. ECS and SPI, among others, use passengers as part of the production chain. There's even an apartment block industry NewGRF that does nothing but generate and accept passengers.
Stadiums as town buildings is the most traditional and can be argued to be the most logical. We can have more than one stadium design and have it pseudo-randomly appear.
There's also an option to create stadiums as train stations, with tracks placed at a below-ground level.

As I've said for some time,we need different SIZES of stadium,so a village of 70 people doesn't have the same apparent seating capacity as a city of 70,000.

Would it fit....is it okay ??? Don't know...
contains two satdiums of Open TTD...the Hammarby Stadium mentioned in this forum and right end... and left side....SignalIduna Park Dortmund...an under it an American Style Stadium....

A good start 
Those which are wider than 128px cannot be used without adoption, though - they must shrink to that width.
Much more important is though: those are not graphics which you drew. It needs information as of their origin, that is who created them and under which conditions those sprites may be (re-)used by other people.

I believe Zimlock's prison has been authorized for use.

Dan MacK has a baseball stadium we can get permission to use:

Koren had a stadium replacement but the files and images appear to be lost. He was last on in January, though, we could ask if he/she still has them.
Irwe might have a stadium he drew up for Swedish House Set

Japan Town Set has a nice stadium we could borrow as well.

there should be no shortage of industry slots. industry sets usually run out of cargo slots way before reaching that. also (i'm not sure about that), the industry limit might have been increased recently.kamnet wrote:The downside being it ties up an industry slot, but this in itself is not novel.

If every option is 2x2 tiles,the need for different sizes is not effectively met (a stadium that is obviously on a different scale than surrounding buildings looks quite odd).

Eddi is right, industry limits were recently increased. Good point!

A 2x2 village green for towns under 150 would be very welcomed. Most UK greens have sport taking place, and would be a useful way of removing a huge stadium from a town of 70.
Edit: not sure why Baldy thinks stadiums are out of scale. Venues of this type are seriously large structures. Maybe a 1x1 venue could work, but then it'd look ridiculously small. A stadium the size of terraced houses for goodness sake!

My complaint is that the stadium never grows past 2x2 even if it would have to seat tens of thousands...it occupies the same space as a village green.Match houses with it as you will.Dave wrote:A 2x2 village green for towns under 150 would be very welcomed.
