I like how articulated road vehicles can allow predefined consists for road vehicles and trams but what about making it so that trailers and tram wagons can be added like trains adding wagons. This would allow some flexibility in making Industrial tram trains and road trains in grfs. And have it so that grfs can specify how many trailers can be added on to a road vehicle or a tram so that 100 trailer trucks and 1000 wagon trams wont happen. FOr road trains it could be from 2 to 6 trailers (austrailian road trains serving mines get pretty long)

Also maybe make it so that modern passenger trams (real or fictional) can be set up like some of the more advanced 2 - 3 car trams and light rail trains that travel on roads (like in Houston, TX)

Oh, you mean this light rail?

I recently watched a TV show that had lots of footage of that Metrorail crashing into cars & trucks left, right, and center! Let's be very thankful that tram/RV collisions don't happen in OpenTTD, eh? :wink:

Bumping an old thread, but this seems like an interesting idea. I came across the issue with making a newGRF for RVs that in order to accomodate multiple real world liveries with different cargoes would cause an awful lot of refits to be available. If this were possible, it'd mean that you'd be able to refit the cab with the livery and then refit the trailer with the cargo.

How difficult would it be to implement this. It wouldn't have to affect existing vehicle sets if all current vehicles were treated as "engines" by default.

I know that Av8 has something like that, 4 liveries per cargo (normal 2cc, reverse 2cc, alt. colour, and blank)

True but that gives a depot like the following:

2CC Passengers
2CC Mail
Reverse 2CC Passengers
Reverse 2CC Mail
Alt. Colour Passengers
Alt. Colour Mail....

Imagine this on RVs now with my real world liveries.

A few liveries later this is going to be a very busy refit window.

256 for every cargo type, times 32 cargo types, makes 8192.

256 potential liveries? Interesting, could just have a very long refit list then?

Av8 aircraft that can carry any cargo have very long refit lists (and I don't mind one bit!) -- see attached example.

Well, at some point there could be a redesign of the refit window. First you select cargo, then volume (where applicable, eGRVTS / HEQS) and finally livery.
