Yellow Signals

Post by Wibblebutt »

Purely for aesthetic reasons it would be nice if signals showed yellow when the signal in advance is at stop as in real life.

Here, in the real life of my country, signals are red or green
If you are not ready to work a bit for your ideas, it means they don't count much for you.
OpenTTD and Realism? Well... Here are a few thoughs on the matter.

I made precisely the same suggestion in this post one week ago. Please note that your suggestion will only work with PBS/YAPP signals, because the next signal is not known if you are using standard non-PBS signals.

So how does the driver know if the next signal is red?

Um ... "By seeing the signal" would be my guess.
To get a good answer, ask a Smart Question. Similarly, if you want a bug fixed, write a Useful Bug Report. No TTDPatch crashlog? Then follow directions.

Mustn't be a high speed line that Belugas is thinking of. Multiple aspect signals are essential there, because the stopping distance of a train is greater than the sighting distance for the red signal.

I'm guessing this should be rephrased as:

How do differentiate an advanced red from a red?

In Sweden one flashing green is the sign that the next signal is red.

OK well in NZ we have tri colour lights. Red means stop, yellow means one clear section and green means at least 2 clear sections. Quite a few signals have insufficient sighting distances to be able to stop in time, so it always works like I have described above. I can't believe that trains have absolutely no warning of a red signal in some countries except sighting distance. What happens if it's foggy??

Maybe I should rephrase my suggestion. Instead of 'yellow signals' maybe 'caution signals' and leave it over to the developer to decide how to show them. ie flashing red, green or solid yellow.

Maybe different signal sets for diferent countries?

Has this been implemented in latest releases? Multiple aspect? If not double yellow, may be atleast single yellow?

Here, theres a real use of yellow signal... (sign for driver to start slow down their trains)
Well, at least the signals always have 3 aspects except for searchlight.

EDIT : Seems theres also some signal which doesn't have yellow signal, also a single yellow signal w/o red signal too
