Hello,

I'd like to suggest a feature to allow disabling of the catchment and/or acceptance of specific cargo types at a station (excepting transfers).

Use-cases would typically involve stations intended to be used only for unloading cargo or for transferring, but which might accidentally start generating passengers and mail as towns grow round them. I could elaborate on these...

Work-arounds include:

  • Buying up land around the station to stop towns growing into it - but no good if the town is already close, and probably rather tricky to do without wasting space, or if you're expanding the station.
  • Habitually setting all passenger/mail trains to non-stop, in case they blunder into the wrong station - but you have to be careful about other trains that might have passenger-carrying engines, if you forget to refit them.

Being able to switch off acceptance and/or production of types of cargo would be much less clumsy, and infinitely better than destroying the station and starting again, to undo the damage once it's been done. Also, it seems realistic that a station owner ought to be able to specify what his station is intended for.

Your thoughts?

Thanks!

It's a bit quiet on these forums this weekend, so I'll reply!

Maybe its because I'm using the nightly downloads (which are pretty good and add a lot of extra features), when placing a station no cargo deposits itself at the station until you pick it up.
So even if a town does encroach near your coal mine, it will say Passengers and Mail accepted but none will wait there and your rating isn't effected.

I've even found that if you do accidentally start picking up a cargo you didn't want to from that station, by that cargo not being picked up for a year causes it to stop depositing it at your station and removes the (negative) ratings.

I think it's been like that for ages. :-)

Yes, but if a station is intended exclusively for passenger transfer, then passenger vehicles necessarily have to visit. If a town then encroaches, those vehicles trigger passenger production, which then steals capacity from the transfers.
