[SOLVED] [MP] Extremely slow map download time

Post by Core »

Hello,

I have extremely slow download times when joining multiplayer. It is around 1-5 Kb/s. This results in not being any to join servers as I just get:

Downloading content works fine and in extremely fast. I just downloaded 7Mbs of stuff in a few seconds.

Any idea's?

Do you have that problem with only one server or with multiple servers? This to rule out it is an issue on your connection.

Possibly your ISP slows connections other than ports 80 and 443 (HTTP and HTTPS respectively), to try to discourage torrenting and other high-bandwidth activities. Some unscrupulous companies do that.

All servers. Doesn't effect downloading content in-game though.

Maybe, any workaround for this?

Run a bandwidth speed test. Ensure that you're receiving the upstream and downstream data rates you're subscribed for.

My speeds are fine, how do I speed test a port?

If all speeds are fine, you wouldn't have your problem right?
As for testing, I have no idea, I wouldn't even know how to do a speed test of my ISP connection at all.

My point however is that speedtests are meaningless if you're not doing it for the right port. There are ISPs that provide good service at a popular ports such as http (used by browsers and many download services), and awful service at other ports. If your speedtest tests eg http, you know whether http is ok, but that result does not imply speed at other ports is fine too (unless you *know* what your ISP does with the other ports).

Yes your right. I cannot seem to find anyway to test speed on particular port though to confirm if this is the issue.

by general rule, ISPs who slow down ports also detect whether you run speed tests and speed them up.

like, try to join a server while you're running the speed test ;)
