Build on slope - where is the setting?

Post by ic111 »

I just wanted to verify that the MAX_BRIDGE_HEIGHT patch of the more heightlevels patch works as desired.

But...

I simply cannot find (and enable) the build on slopes setting anymore. In my config, I have

[construction]
(...)
build_on_slopes = true
(...)

... but when I look into the advanced settings / start a new game, neither building on slopes is activated, nor I can find any trace of that flag in the advanced settings, neither before nor after game start. (in the advanced settings, I have the filter "Expert settings / All settings" / "All settings types" activated).

https://wiki.openttd.org/Advanced_Setti ... and_coasts also doesn´t give any hint about a removed feature or something similar...

Did I become blind, or what´s going on with that setting?

I use current trunk, pulled and updated an hour ago.

The problem is, how can I activate building on slopes (and build below buildings), which used to exist for long times?

Or did you drop that possibility completely? If yes, why?

The options are still there, just moved from the in-game advanced settings menu to the configuration file.

In other words: it has become a config-file only setting

In the game, open the console, and type "list_settings slope"
That gives the list of settings with the word "slope" in it. My list also has "autslope", maybe that is the setting you need?

You can also change them in the console, see "help setting"

Hm, I now two or three time had the behaviour, that I set the flag in editor, saved, started OpenTTD, and when I went back to editor, it reported the file has changed on disk, and the flag was deactivated again.

Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce this anymore now, now it is set, and stays set.

So: Either I did some silly mistake in using editors, or there is some odd path of user interaction, where the configured value in the file is overwritten by some auto-magic.

Lets treat this solved concerning me :-)

(and thank you for the hint with the console)

the file will be overwritten if OpenTTD is running while you edit it.

If it is written periodically, and not just on user events like stopping the program, then that might indeed be a good explanation for my problems.

Maybe I had a second instance of OpenTTD in another trunk_foo directory open (and have forgotten about it); I have several of those directories for different patches in different versions...
