Why are there very few early start servers?

Post by Sarin »

So, I've gone back to OTTD again...and curious, why there aren't many public servers starting around ~1910-1930 era? There are common NewGRFs that provide vehicles that early, and steam environment is fun. At least for me. So I'm wondering, do peole have somethnig egainst it?

On a related note...I'd totally host a server with such setting from time to time. But I'd need to know that people are going to play, and get some opinions about settings (economy, NewGRFs, other settings etc...). Plus, I've never hosted a server before, so I need to figure out basic things like welcome message, admin stuff etc...

Most online players do not desire or understand how to use newgrfs, it seems.
Being a retired OpenTTD developer does not mean I know what I am doing.
