Why can't I select some items?

Newbie to the forums - but not the game.

Can someone explain why I can sometimes select particular items (be it Stations, objects, infrastructure or vehicles) and sometimes they aren't selectable?

It's probably restricted to certain years.

Yes they are. These particular ones are available from 1967/1979 when they first appeared in The Netherlands.
