overkill? (supply chain, limited fleet variety, flow chart)

Post by trainrover »

This is my 1st go at trying another climate than the temperate one. I can't seem to keep up with the supplies that my 'nearby' farms yield, and so my food processing plant has ballooned into -for me- an unsightly mess, as revealed in the following 3 screenshots. Is this kind of food depot normal or would it simply be the outcome of my (solitary) playing style, please? Having read the ottd manual, I did see that 1t (ton/ne?) of food every 50(?) days is all that's required by towns on/above the snow limit.

The main reason why I'm asking this is because it does feel silly having to always stock my fleets with the speediest and largest vehicules, incurring fleet monotony if you will, while other members' screenshots reveal much fleet variety.

The other matter is that my goods flow chart indicate corresponding routes as being saturated, but I've timed dispatches to occur only every 30 days. Is this normal, please (the ottd manual doesn't seem to cover goods aspects much)?

Reason: un-inlined giant screenshots. Max size for inlining is 800x600

I wonder how many farms you are using to supply that one food processing plant. Surely you could split this station into 2, 3 or even 4 different food processing plants. That way it would be much smaller and more evenly spread across the map.

Ah..thank you..it's now clear to me the usefulness of that feature fund new industry. 10 farms..I panicked once the nearby city shooed a couple of farms away, plus the same's probably going to happen soon to a couple more. What condition/s finally bring about farm elimination from urban encroachment, do you know?

Any gives on the goods flow chart?

I suppose that set be N American Road Vehicules 0.1.2. Yeah, trains and trucks together can't keep up with farms closer to the city. Come to think of it, the multitude of exposed autoroutes bug me more than the plant platforms. I suppose I'll just wait for the nearest farms to be zapped before splitting up the food services.

Ahh, thank you. Would I corrupt my on-going game were I to swap sets, do you know (I hesitate at even trying it out)?

Ahh, saved and loads flawlessly, thank you, plus it's good seeing that cantilever one still in east coast(?) green.

I never did serve either 1 of the 2 farms that got zapped by(?) my hq city. Now that the stalled growth of the city seems to have ceased, is there any telling when either 1 of these 2 farms shown here will get snuffed? Their productions are mighty, and I'm wondering if it be better to withdraw all their services to hasten their eliminations..their obstructions are too much of impediments to the (lopsided) growth of the city, plus I won't 'cheat' with that accessory magic bulldozer.

As long as you provide transport service to those farms, it is very unlikely that they will die. Even if you stop providing service, it may take very long time before those farms die, if their current production level is high. You can help the city grow around the farms by building roads connected to the city, and run them around the farms.

If the town grows all around the farm and take up all the farm squares, the farms won't decrease their production levels. Those farm tiles are purely for decoration.

Thank you, I'd been wondering whether this be how farms function.

in some versions of ECSVectors, farms close if they are swallowed by a town.

^^ Aha! thank you, because that's exactly what I seem to remember as happening within the previous scenario I happened to play..you've quelled this evening's lingering query of mine.

^^ times 2: Isn't it a cool set? It's N A City Set v1.0. Its masonry-clad buildings stick around for ever :) virtually none of that let's-have-our-buildings-downtown-resemble-airport-terminals.

Errr..here's a ½-minute-long dynamic clip of the zany facilities of the plant..it must've been more than one year now since I've played its game: https://youtu.be/Z3HWkw-5HeA
