Windows 8 app
Are there any plans to release OpenTTD as Windows 8 (Store) app?
Re: Windows 8 app
conjecture based on other app stores (steam, apple, ...): no.

- store not able/willing to comply with GPL requirements
- manual interaction needed for every new release
- costs money to get approved

Looking over the EULA (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library ... s/hh694058) it's actually friendly to open-source software. If the devs need somebody to manage the store for them, I'd volunteer for that.
That just leaves the $99/year fee. Considering that we don't actually NEED to be in the store, and it's just gravy, I'd not object to charging a premium fee of $1 to cover that. I'm pretty sure 99 people a year would be interested in downloading it from the store.

Re: Windows 8 app
The biggest problem I can see is not licensing or certification, it's that you can't simply take a Windows Desktop program and upload it as a "Windows Store App", they don't use the same APIs or compiler, conversion would essentially be an OS port, and considering the game runs fine on Windows 8 as it is, why would anyone bother?

Thanks for elaborate answers!
Porting is unnessesery work I understand that. I just thought that it would help promote the game. And allow simple way (from players point of view) how to deliver always up to date game.
You actually can't run it on RT devices. But I suspect there aren't many people using RT devices.

Me, too. I'm trying all I can to get into it and get it to run online files. The problem with that is, I'm way too inexperienced with Administrative Tools.
