Did you manually overwrite the executable of an existing install, but not the other files that come with the game? If you unpack the zip, unpack it completely.

I updated from 1.4.1 which worked fine. So I don't know why it would say what it said

Please download OpenTTD from the OpenTTD website and unzip it into an empty directory. Or, if you are on windows, you can also use the installer and have that install OpenTTD for you

There are some 3rd-party sites / gaming communities which also offer modified OpenTTD, still call that modified OpenTTD 1.4.2 (or whatever is the current stable version) and claim that those versions "better" support their servers. Their downloads do not always contain all files which are necessary for OpenTTD, e.g. also the language files, and then you will encounter that bug you see.

I use windows 7 and updated straight from the official openttd website. :? For now I'll just uninstall 1.4.2 and play on 1.4.1 until the next version.

How did you do that? Via the installer, via the zip (and in that case, what did you unpack to where)? Don't give up so easily!
If it is indeed a bug and nobody helps find it, you'll have the same problem in the next version ;)

I did the same as always. I go onto the official website and click download stable 1.4.2 in the top left and any stuff that gets put anywhere should be in the same folder as the other versions are theoretical should work.

Have you tried reinstalling the "correct" way from start to finish?

For the purposes of hunting down whether this was a bug, can you tell us exactly how you installed 1.4.2 originally?

I went onto openttd.org clicked on the top left where it said download stable 1.4.2 then it took me to www.openttd.org/en/download-stable then I clicked the windows one and 64bit installer and downloaded normally from there (going through the download procedure) Again, Thanks. :D

Okay, did you tick or untick any of the packages on the installer?
