OpenTTD 1.1.2

Post by planetmaker »

Hello,

as of today we present the brand new OpenTTD 1.1.2 which got two important bug fixes with respect to its preceeding release candidate which fix potential crashes in cases with unknown or missing languages when using NewGRFs referencing these languages and with some broken savegames.

Get the new version from the usual locations and should you discover any bugs, please report them to our bug tracker

Enjoy!

Nice! The fix is basically how I suggested it to be fixed this morning, not knowing that it was already fixed that way... :P

After the game update (from version 1.1.1 -> 1.1.2) it became unworkable, it seems that it won't work on Windows 2000. The error says that: openttd.exe is not Win32 application. So, I'd to downgrade it back to the 1.1.1.

Which version of OpenTTD 1.1.2 did you download? That error message sounds as if you downloaded the 64 bits version by mistake.

It works under Windows XP. But not under Win2k. By the default I can download 32bit version (installer)...

Can you test if the attached EXE works under Win2K? This is a trunk build with an experimental patch applied.

EDIT: That's only the EXE and no langs or data files, so if it works you'll still get an OpenTTD supplied error message about missing files.

It looks as though OpenTTD is now being built with Visual Studio 2010. In Microsoft's infinite wisdom, VS2010 now generates executables with a minimum version requirement of Windows XP (actually, XP SP2 to be precise). More information here.

In short it means that the current release will not work on Win2000 and WinXP without SP3 (if you updated your Windows XP like you should have, you'll be fine), until a solution for this problem has been found. The first step towards that solution is Michi_cc's post. If that works, a new 1.1.2 or possibly a 1.2.3 binary will be built and provided.

It's unlikely that OpenTTD will stop supporting Win2000. Regardless of that I personally think still using Win2000 is not a very good idea, especially on computers with an internet connection.

Even 1.1.2 still supports Win2000 if you simply download the Win9x version, which has limited unicode support, but is otherwise identical.

Ah, well. Then maybe the easiest solution is to rename the 9x/ME binary to 9x/ME/2000 :P

To Michi_cc:

Your trunk version have worked (it said "incorrect language pack/version", but it means that it is workable).

To others:
As for 9x version it works too. So I've made an update anyway, thanks to all.

I suppose when you think about it, though, Windows 2000 is eleven years old, and XP is ten years old, so it's probably not unreasonable for them to move on and take advantage of new features. Visual C++ 6.0 in 1998 didn't support creating Windows 2.0 executables!
