I hope that the developers can help in some way.Phil Thane wrote:Hi Everyone,
I've written a weekly page in MicroMart since issues 827 (we're on 1153 now)
first 'Beginners' Linux' the 'Linux News'...
MM is getting a new editor next month . Seems a good time to stop the weekly pieces.
I've agreed to do one four page piece every month rather than a page a week.
More depth and more flexibility, 'news' is a pain sometimes because you have to
dredge up something even when nothing much is happening, and somehow write
stuff in advance when you're away.
Which leads me on to the request (you knew this was coming didn't you?).
I'm going to do a piece on cross-platform applications, specifically FOS, such
as Libre Office, Firefox, various Java apps and so on. It's easy enough to find
examples of such software but I need someone who knows a bit about programming
to explain to me the various ways in which apps are made to work on different
platforms. I do know a bit about it but need to know more. Cross-compiling,
virtual machines, compatibilty layers, pros and cons etc.
If you are actively involved in developing and want your project or company
mentioned, it can be, something along the lines of "Dr X of XY&Z Corps told us
how..." Or we can leave you out of it if you want to remain anon.
