I have this server everytime... I can play only sometimes... it is because of my LAN, I think, but I think devs should make different lag handling:
Player shouldn't be dropped - player should remain on the server as long as server is up and player's OTTD is running (game should just freeze for a while)
OTTD is not action FPS (FPP) and 5-10 sec desynchronisation(lag, freeze, whatever) shouldn't do anything bad

I think the main problem why players are disconnected is because the frame they are on is behind the one the server is on. Even so it would still make sense if they transparently reconnected... I did make a patch for this agggeeesss ago, if I get some time (i.e. after exams tommorow) I will have ago.
