Track Maintenance Vehicles Set

A set of vehicles for OpenTTD to use for track maintenance. We are not going to be adding any features to make these useful (yet), just adding them.

Project Information
XLS (Excel spreadsheet) file containing important information about the project, by Colonel32.

Track carrying wagon, crane and both
Carries tracks and has a crane so they can be moved to a place for storage near the construction area, by Luca (me).

Construction Wagon
Construction wagon with warning type things on the side, by Purno ( ).

MUV69
Russian maintenance vehicle, by Colonel32.

Steam Puller
Steam locomotive, by Born Acorn, not yet finished.

DGKu-5
Russian crane thing, by Colonel32, not yet finished.

---- Original Post ----

Ok, I think it would be good if OTTD had some track maintenance vehicles (even if they are just for show), so I am going to have a go at making some.

Here are a few pictures I have found on the web.

Most of them seem to be coloured yellow as this one is. An ordinary shunter is used when repairing or building tracks as you can see here - well I am guessing thats why there is a thing that looks like a crane at the back.

Here is another one, just a crane type thing. Yes, its a model.

More Info

Here is a vehicle that is used (I guess) just to check the track to see what condition it is in. I saw an Intercity train with a few carriages like this (with a more modern design) at Bristol a few months ago. Yes, this ia a model too.

Anyway as I said I will try and make OTTD versions of these. If you have any suggestions, comments or pictures please post them.

Yes, he does. The question is, if he will let us use it.

Btw: This way we could make a whole set of only mainetance vehicles.
HEY PEOPLE, WHAT DO YOU THINK? ANYBODY INTERESTED IN THE PROJECT?

EDIT: the XLS sheet will contain vital information about the project development

Celestar pointed out this picture which looks good (he says he has a load more too).

So here is an OpenTTD version. :D

EDIT:

Do you mean this vehicle? Its would be good, but at the moment we haven't got electric tracks in OTTD so it doesn't really have a use at the moment. When we do though it could be good, but Michael Blunck said that this project can use any of his graphics as long as they are not modified (which includes re-encoding them).

pretty hard, when the vehicle is not available coded

OK, I think we can start a development thread.

Purno has made this truck and has given the project permission to use it.

I have had a look at most of Purno's graphics, and wow, they are brilliant ( ) - especially some of the bridges, they look much better than the current ones we have.

Can shunters be included?

well, I think we should start a new thread for shutters, so that it doesn't get messed up to much, but that's my opinion.

do you all really think it makes sense to paint these vehicles in the "old" way now, even if we perhaps get new graphics sooner or later?

and another think, they don't even have to be just for show, how about the railroad tracks get "old" as well just like the vehicles and after a while you have to go over them slowly... And you can prevent this from happen by sending such a train set over the track.
Just as in real life, a maintenance train at work should go pretty slow, of course.

What do you think?

I am not really sure what is happening about the new graphics format yet, but I don't think anything is going to be out too soon.

Yes, lets stick with the old ways...

Well, I have heated up my scanner, and I am bringing some pictures:

This is some russian-origin mainetance vehicle, I will post more info later (when I find some)

This red/white thing is MUV69, no idea what pic 6 is

And those ones I found somewhere on the net.
The first one is class 890 (based on M131.1)
The last two are class 892 (based on class M152.o)

As it seems to me, I'll draw all the ones I have suggested

2 Lucaspiller: Maybe you should make an XLS file to manage all the stuff. Or should I do it?

so we can do a sim city 4 like building method, you select where the road/railroad will be built, then some vehicles come out and start to build the road/railroad... i think that these vehicles should come out from a depot, so you have to start the track with a depot

this should be optional

This is just for the discussion of making the set, not for what will be done with it. I expect this will just be an extra set of trains at first (in grf format), but you never know...

Colonel32: Those look good. :D An XLS file eh? An Excel spreadsheet right, to keep all the info about the trains? You can do that if you want, I don't even know how to get a new engine into the game yet.

Dude, I am a Graphic Artist, not a coder... The only thing I do is that I draw pictures... I can do an Excel file, that is fine with me, but we are gonna need some coders when the graphics are done, that's for sure...

Finally! Took some time... Well, this is the way I would see MUV69 in TTDX scale - the platform is empty, yet. Need some more photos to finish. But for now, what do you think about it?
