Re: Japan Set Development
Here you go.
Its just tbrs but with the Japanese tracks and roads. It doesn't adjust to the messing around of trainset parameters though. So you can only have narrow gauge replacing standard and Shinkansen Replaing Maglev.
But I don't mess around with those anyway so all is good.
Btw +1 vote for the blue to stay blue
The main thing I like about this set is that its so cute and colorful and japanese and that blue is cute and colorful.

As far as I know, thats 2 votes for blue to stay unless there are other posts I haven't seen.

Re: Japan Set Development
Look harder next time, they're not *that* hard to find.
Here I'll post them.
GRF parameters
GRF parameters can be used to customize various aspects of the Japanese Train Set. (Information on how to use GRF parameters: in TTDPatch; in OpenTTD).
The following parameters are avaible (default values in bold print):
1st Parameter:
* 0 - Use narrow gauge track graphics for normal rail and Shinkansen track graphics for Shinkansen tracks
* 1 - Do not use narrow gauge track graphics, but use Shinkansen track graphics for Shinkansen tracks
* 2 - Use narrow gauge track graphics for normal rail and normal default track graphics for Shinkansen tracks
* 3 - Do not change track graphics at all
Important note: This setting affects the graphics only. So for example the value 2 does not mean that Shinkansen trains can run on normal tracks.
The Shinkansen will replace maglev in OpenTTD and either maglev or monorail in TTDPatch depending on the setting of the unified maglev switch.
Narrow gauge and Shinkansen track graphics are included for both the Japanese landscape and for the default TTD graphics (including proper road crossings).
2nd Parameter:
* 0 - Use separate sprites for mail cars in multiple units whenever available.
* 1 - Use passenger car sprites in multiple units for both passenger and mail cars.
Note that mail car sprites are currently unavailable for some multiple unit trains. However, this does not affect the possibility to attach mail cars to all trains.
3rd Parameter:
Cost setting:
* 0 - very low
* 1 - low
* 2 - normal
* 3 - high
* 4 - insane
Add 8 to these values to switch running costs for wagons off in OpenTTD (automatic in TTDPatch).
4th Parameter:
Load/unload speed
* 1 slow
* 2 normal
* 3 fast
The slow setting corresponds roughly to the TTD default values.
Here I'll post them.

Re: Japan Set Development
If you say so, but I find it hard to believe. They are in the readme, and the readme is both on the website and comes with the grf. And if you open the readme, the very first item you see is a small table of contents where it says "GRF parameters". This is not a mock question, I am really curious: What more can we do?NekoMaster wrote:I looked around for the sets parameters but I cant find anything, i looked in the read me
Now that you mention it, I can see the terraces. But then they should also have water on them when the tiles around them are in the "water period".krtaylor wrote: I always thought that the rice fields as drawn were supposed to BE terraces.
It's on page 167 of this very thread, second post.krtaylor wrote: Are you saying that there is a Japanese bridges GRF that I don't have? If so, please post it.
There is no readme currently, but parameters are the same as for thgergo's original set.
Who called for a vote on this?NekoMaster wrote: BTW I vote for the rice fields to stay Blue. Why do more work when it looks good enough?

I agree, cant have half the tile being rice then the other being wheat fields.dandan wrote:If you say so, but I find it hard to believe. I did look in the read me, I found nothing, I looked in the oldest release I had (v5) and the newest, neither had info on the parameters. I also did not find it on the site, i never found anything that pointed toward it.
dandan wrote: something should be done about the slopes.
BTW, I found that the TORA 55000 hopper is missing its sprite, now, this might be because I have other sets active, so ill try again later with out anything else but the japan set, if it still doesnt work Ill post a screen shot.

Re: Japan Set Development
Oho. Is it perhaps a coding error? I mean, are there drawn slope-terraces that show water in them, that either aren't coded yet or weren't coded to appear in the correct phase?dandan wrote: Now that you mention it, I can see the terraces. But then they should also have water on them when the tiles around them are in the "water period".
If not, it should be fairly easy to put water in the slope-terraces, then everything would look correct. I do think something along those lines should be done.
I am neutral on the question of the bright water; it doesn't really offend me. I think if we fix the slope-terraces so it all matches, then it will all look good without changing the water.
Regarding the bridges, if it's really just the TBRS, do we have permission to post it separately under our own name and schema? We'd need a new Readme for it in any case.

Re: Japan Set Development
No, it's just one large block of sprite replacements, nothing fancy. If you look at the sprites on the project page, you can see that all the slopes only have water on the non-sloped part.krtaylor wrote:Oho. Is it perhaps a coding error? I still think the water could be improved but I wouldn't know exactly how, so I won't complain. The slopes are the only thing that really matters.krtaylor wrote: If not, it should be fairly easy to put water in the slope-terraces, then everything would look correct. Yes, we do, that is why I said twice that we have thgergo's permission. But I would not call it "Japanese Bridges" and I would not try too hard to pretend that it is part of our project. I think it should be called "Total Bridge Renewal for Japan Set", which is the current name of the grf. As for the readme, the original TBRS has this picture for documentation. I suggest we either include that or link to it.krtaylor wrote: Regarding the bridges, if it's really just the TBRS, do we have permission to post it separately under our own name and schema? Re: Japan Set Development
The missing icon is a problem I am aware of. I haven't bothered fixing it so far, since Shinkansen tracks still have problems in OpenTTD anyway (wrong strings and missing catenary). We are all waiting for the railtypes feature to come along.
I can't reproduce the problem with the wrong ground sprites in the upper screenshot. Please provide a list of the the grfs you are using, the version of OpenTTD and/or a savegame.

Re: Japan Set Development
Hi,
we currently have a big Japanese theme game on our PublicServer. It really rocks.
Right now I got an OpenTTD error message (related to the trainset, 2beta8) which kinda is "wtf?": My translation:
(NewGRF delivers wrong information: cargo / replacement information for "485 series EMU (Kirishima and Hyuuga)" deviate from the purchase list after being bought. This may lead to the fact that refit while using automatic replacement or renewal doesn't work correctly"

Thanks for reporting, planetmaker. This probably won't cause any trouble, but it is of course annoying. Will get fixed in the next release.

Re: Japan Set Development
It's from the same game which my report is take from, thus same NewGRF. Currently it's on the server and you get saves from http://ps.openttdcoop.org/public/save/autosave later you'll find a save as PublicServer game #151 in our archives (see my signature: #openttdcoop wiki -> archive). We run OpenTTD r16782 (but it looks the same in recent trunk).dandan wrote:I can't reproduce the problem with the wrong ground sprites in the upper screenshot. Re: Japan Set Development
The version of the Japanese Landscape Set that is included with the ottdc-patchpack has the wrong GRF ID and is therefore not recognized by the train set. I am not sure where that version comes from at the moment, but if you replace it with the one available from the Japan Set website or Bananas you should be fine.

Re: Japan Set Development
Not really. I just started a new game to test this. Before so, I checked whether I could update anything from bananas. All of the Japanese newgrf now come from my download folder except the name grf. But the different colour for the sloped tracks persists:

Re: Japan Set Development
Maybe we were talking about a different problem all along. Ammler's screenshot had the default ground tiles under the Shinkansen tracks rather than the Japanese ones. I guess you mean the tracks themselves, not the ground sprite. The rails are a little dark on the slopes. I'm afraid that's a glitch with the sprites that has always been there *cough*. I never thought of this as much of a problem but now that you pointed it out, I keep staring at it and find it rather ugly.
Unfortunately, Sanchimaru doesn't seem to be around currently to take care of this, but hopefully it will get fixed some time in the future.

Re: Japan Set Development
You're right. It's two different issues. To me the track difference was more prominently visible than the ground tile difference

Well, I meant the tracks itself too, for me, it looks like they are 1px misaligned.

Re: Japan Set Development
Time for a major update to the buildings.
What's new?
===========
1) Included a lot of new buildings, sprites taken from TTRS3. Many are unmodified, others have been changed to look a bit more Japanese. Many thanks to the guys from TTRS for making their sprites available for everybody to use. That's the spirit!
2) Some changes to existing buildings, especially colors for the early years.
3) Updated readme.
I think the set looks a lot more complete now. The earlier years remain somewhat lacking. So here is what's missing most:
a) More historic Japanese buildings
b) Parks and statues
c) Old stadium, old police/fire station, old hospital
EDIT: files removed. Newer version below.

Re: Japan Set Development
Also updated the landscape set to include Zimmlock's roads from TTRS to replace the current ones in the years up to 1950. I also put the arctic roads back in that Stevenh had already coded (I had accidentally used an old version last time so that these were missing). I haven't fixed the slopes on the rice fields yet, but I am getting used to them
