You should be able to buy industries and then the industry can be dynamited by you, but more importantly, the industry only give you goods and only accepts goods off you. 8)

Hmm, yes. Once the industry is built, it just becomes part of the map - the computer doesn't remember who built the industry, only that it is there.

Or would that break its internal code

Umm, wait a minute did I miss something here?

I thought from reading the documentation of the "big" tool or whatever it was, that each square had things like type, owner, height and so on...

And building an industry can't just get rid of the owner variable :?

Ah yes, but then the wagons wouldn't change, they would still haul coal, and it would still be black...

is it not possible that a uranium mine/s can start up after a certain year, and thats when power plants or maybe just a few start excepting uranium as well as or rather than coal...

would make things interesting if u have like 60 coal trains going to a power plant and it becomes nuclear and doesnt except coal anymore:)
would be a nice challange that hehheeh

What you are getting into, is rejiggering the economic vectors. This would be great, it would be nice to have more variety of industries and vehicles, but not possible currently. Maybe possible to realign the vectors but you couldn't have more discrete industries or cargos than you do now. And anyway, if you have more different types of industry it would skew the gameplay with the map being so small. That would be one for a bigger map, which we know is not currently possible.
